Practices for the Sustainability and Resilience of Family Enterprises

How do you get a 100 year old family enterprise? Making the decision to continue together as a family enterprise demands a thoughtful approach to the assessment of joint risks and opportunities. It also requires a thoughtful approach on how to move forward. The ability to shift direction or focus as circumstances require is paramount. Continuing for many generations is all about the ability to sustain, to do what is necessary now, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Fredda will share five sets of practices that underlie the ability of a family enterprise to last 100 years. These practices developed in her firm's research with families also forms the basis of an assessment tool to help families build on what they have for a long lasting future. 

More About Fredda

Fredda Herz Brown, PhD, is the Founder and Senior Consultant of Relative Solutions and a pioneer in the field of family enterprise. Her numerous contributions over a quarter-century helped establish standards of professional practice and develop the body of knowledge that defines the work of the field to this day. Fredda has authored numerous articles, served as mentor to many young consultants and family enterprise scholars, and continues to serve as a guest lecturer for a number of academic programs, demonstrating her thought leadership in the field. She is the co-author of The Family Wealth Sustainability Toolkit, which is an online index with a book, providing an innovative way for families to better assess their wealth sustainability skills. Fredda's distinguished career accomplishments have been honored by awards from the Family Office Exchange and the Family Firm Institute, where she is a Fellow and founding board member.
